But some of them are not even told the same thing in the books, the show and the game Witcher III: Wild Hunt. Geralt’s amnesia is one of those stories. so how did geralt lose his memory? and does it recover the memory?
It was never actually explained as a complete scenario, but during The Witcher II: Assassins of Kings it is revealed that Geralt was nearly killed and thus lost his memory.

yes, he did. Now, before we get into the matter, we should clarify that there are three main witcher games. they are spin-offs from the original book series, but follow the characters we already know from the books.
the witcher, the witcher ii and the witcher iii are the existing games in the witcher universe. The events that cause Geralt to lose his memory take place before the first game when she has amnesia. In the second game, Assassins of Kings, released in 2011, Geralt begins to recover some of the most important memories.

once geralt remembers what happens, we find out that he remembers that yennefer was almost killed next to him. she was protecting a group of non-humans from the villagers who were trying to attack them, declaring them monsters. Since he faced the angry mob, he was technically killed, attacked with a pitchfork by the villagers.
yennefer, like the powerful sorceress that she is, tried to revive him and died in the process. They were both found by Ciri, who ultimately saved their lives with the powers she’s had since she was born.
While suffering from amnesia, he was used by a sorceress named Triss Merigold. Contrary to the belief that Triss had something to do with Geralt’s amnesia, she actually became his mistress in Yennefer’s absence.
she re-introduced herself to geralt and, being in love with him for a long time, kept the truth about yennefer, her existence and her history to herself. She seduced Geralt and eventually he fell in love with her and they became lovers with her.
when did geralt get his memory back?
once geralt regains his memories, he discovers that yennefer was taken by the wild hunt, so he spends a lot of time searching for his love. once he finds her, he offers her life in exchange for her release.

the deal succeeds and yennefer is released, so she runs away. Geralt, now captured by these ghostly figures that take the “human” form of horsemen, manages to escape. Later, once he discovered that her beloved Yennefer was still alive, he began his journey to search for her.
This marked the beginning of the witcher game. Geralt renounced her relationship with Triss, who hid the truth from him, although he voluntarily decided to go out with her. once he regained his memory, he cared for yennefer and only yennefer.
geralt is just outside the gates of kaer morhen when he loses his memory, the place where warlocks are trained and where some of them live. it’s unclear exactly what memories he recovers and how, because the setting for this scenario is set between the books (which ended with his death) and the first game.
In the original series, Geralt and Yennefer do not continue this journey. the games just act as a spin-off and there are many ideas and adventures that a player can understand in his own way and interpret the whole game as he wants.
geralt could have regained his memories with a potion, with the help of his warlock friends, other wizards, or simply by natural causes. It’s important to note that the third djinn’s wish coming true could have been related to him and yennefer dying together and also being resurrected and saved together.
It’s plausible that this is why he also remembered her even though triss did everything she could to hold him back except hex him. Although she used and manipulated him, her love for Yennefer (and perhaps the fact that her destinies were intertwined by desire, as Yennefer herself proclaimed in the first book) may be what restored her memory of Yennefer. her.
It’s very unclear and difficult to understand these game sequences if they weren’t explicit or real in the books, however, fans were delighted to see Geralt alive and well with all his memories in the third game.
