5. sketchnoting in the classroom: a practical guide to deepening student learning by nichole carter

Must read books for teachersLooking for a new way for students to work through ideas? We’ve all done “brain maps”, but have you tried sketchnoting? Sketchnoting has been popular in the “creative community” for a few years now as a way to think through projects and ideas. Now, author Nichole Carter, brings this magic to the classroom. In her book, Nichole shows how sketchnotes can help students retain new material and build connections to larger concepts.

Not convinced by the idea? The book also includes a discussion of the brain science behind sketchnoting. It also includes ways to teach students how to identify patterns and apply them effectively in their notes. There are also lesson ideas for annotating sketches in content areas, including science, social studies, English language arts, and math. plus, this strategy would go really well with boogers!

8. eleanor oliphant is completely fine: a novel by gail honeyman

Ok, here’s one that is just for you. You as a person, not a teacher, mother, wife, just you. (And it’s also a Reese’s Book Club so you know it’s going to be good!) That’s what makes this one is a must read book for teachers.

The book is about Eleanor Oliphant, a woman who struggles with the right social skills and tends to say exactly what’s on her mind. nothing is missing in his carefully scheduled life of avoiding social interactions. weekends are spent eating frozen pizza, drinking too much vodka, and talking on the phone with mom. But Eleanor’s life is about to change when she meets Raymond, the awkward and deeply unhygienic guy from her office. Later, she and Raymond save Sammy, an old man who has fallen on the sidewalk, and the three of them become the kind of friends who rescue each other from the life of isolation they’ve been living. And it’s Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find a way to mend her deeply damaged one. Did I mention it’s going to be a movie soon? I can’t wait!
