which book by shari lapena did you like the most?

I actually disagree with the goodreads ratings. I’d rank It’s Not a Happy Family as the best of sorrow (you can read my review of It’s Not a Happy Family here), followed by The Couple Next Door . wasn’t a huge fan of someone we know, which reminded me a lot of harlen coben’s hold tight (I only realized this when I was watching the adaptation of hold tight on netflix .

please come and discuss that book or the netflix adaptation here. ) or the end of it, which started out strong but turned into chaos by the end. I haven’t read the worst rated books about grief, an unwanted guest or a stranger in the house.

which shari lapena book should you read?

shari lapena reminds me a bit of harlan coben. both are masters of the plot, juggling many secondary balls in the air and including many different points of view. they both write fast-paced, plot-driven books that aren’t going to be for readers who are big on character development or atmosphere.

if you love authors like liane moriarty or sally hepworth, definitely read it’s not a happy family. Like the books by Hepworth and Moriarty, Not a Happy Family is rooted in family relationships. and dysfunction.

If you like twisted domestic thrillers from authors like sarah pekkanen and greer shepherd or liv constantine, then I’d try the couple next door.

My two favorite lapenes also have a true crime feel to them. I’m working on a true crime inspired fiction post, and will definitely have these two on that list. if that sounds like something you’d like, be sure to sign up for my weekly email or my monthly mystery-thriller newsletter. or both! you can do it here or at the top of this post!
