after reading this book, ramanuj commented: “dhirubhai ambani is probably the only one responsible for forcing sebi to make more than half of its regulations today. if india had its mike milken (I say that with appreciation, only with a lot of admiration), it was definitely dhirubhai.”

king of capital by david carey and john morris

This book talks about raising private capital. You’ll learn more about private equity from this book than you can by practicing as a private equity attorney for a year or two.

It’s about blackstone’s journey to become the world’s largest private equity firm in 2007, when it emerged as the full or part owner of 55 companies that collectively employed more than half a million people.

The book chronicles the evolution of Blackstone through ups and downs, disastrous initial investments, and infighting. reveals not only the personalities behind the company, but also the larger forces at work in the corporate and financial worlds that transformed private equity from a handful of upstart investment boutiques in the 1970s and 1980s into a mainstay of the financial world. , backed by billions of public pension funds and other institutional investors.
