This book covers a wide range of information you will need as a private pilot. Unlike many books that aren’t updated frequently, this one goes into detail about more modern systems, including all-glass cabins, ads-b, electronic flight bags, and more.
Another great feature of this book is the stunning illustrations. It may not sound that exciting, but illustrations and diagrams are a big part of learning in flight training. so having ones that not only look good, but also explain everything thoroughly is really helpful for learning the concepts.
One last thing you’ll enjoy in Jeppesen’s book is the real life stories. these stories help teach why the material is so important to learn and ingrain into your flight.
Like I said, if you can only afford one, this is the book to buy.
rod machado’s private pilot’s manual
If you’re looking for a straight to the point book with a good dose of humor, this is the book for you. rod covers all topics thoroughly and does an excellent job of explaining the “why” behind the principle.

It’s definitely one of the most enjoyable books to read on this list. It’s also packed with great illustrations (over 1,200) that help explain things effectively.
One problem some people have with this book, however, is that it’s written with some humor and stories that don’t work for everyone when trying to learn.

one of the benefits of buying this is that they also mark what has changed since the last post. it’s a useful feature that you don’t get if you went straight to the source.
asa has been publishing this book every year for decades. everyone who flies in the usa uu. they use it, so it’s worth adding to your library, either physically or digitally. many pilots like to save this on their ipad for quick reference.
preparation for private pilot test 2022
Get ready for your private pilot knowledge test with one of the most popular study guides. ASA’s private pilot exam prep book will help you learn aerodynamics, engine operation, aircraft performance, radios and navigation, meteorology, instruments, and even dangerous attitudes. After going through all the subjects, you can take the 5 free practice tests included in this book.
This book is a great help in your preparation for the private pilot exam. however, I would not rely on this book alone to prepare you for the exam. Instead, consider taking a private pilot ground school and then use this book to help you refresh and then test your knowledge. Take each of the practice tests and see how you do. if you can pass these you should be good to go to the test.
Overall, this is an excellent private pilot book to help you pass your knowledge test.
private pilot oral exam guide
many pilots feel good about the flying part of their checkride, but are incredibly nervous about the speaking part. if that’s you, this is the book to grab. This private pilot book looks at the many, many questions you may be asked during the oral portion of the control trip and the accompanying response.

This is another book that is regularly updated, so make sure you buy the latest edition (they update it to align with airman certification standards).
Another helpful part of this study guide is the scenario-based questions. these are often requested by designated pilot examiners to check if you really know the principles (not just memorize them) and if you can explain them in action.

this is the official manual of the faa and should be owned by almost all private pilots. covers all the necessary information you need to know for your faa written exam and practical exam.
As far as private pilot books go, it’s not the most exciting by any means. but it’s packed with useful information that will prepare you for your journey of private pilot control.
When buying, you’ll want to make sure you’re buying the most recent version, it’s updated every few years. you can buy it on amazon as a paperback or you can read it as a pdf.
gleim aviation weather and weather services
One of the most challenging parts of flying for many new pilots is the weather. making the decision to fly or not can be a bit stressful. and understanding the many weather maps and services available requires a bit of study in and of itself.
This book includes the text of the FAA Aeronautical Meteorological and Aeronautical Meteorological Services along with a few other publications. It also contains study guides and other helpful information as you work to learn the weather.
Now, as a private pilot, you usually don’t focus too much on the weather. it is usually reserved for your instrument rating. however, you still need to spend some time learning about the weather during your private pilot training and this book is a great resource to help you do that.
plus, once you get to your instrument rating, you’ll already have this book to help you study for the practical instrument rating exam.
