Well, it’s unusual when a writer is speechless, but that’s how I feel today. we finished filming the last season of bosch. I am sad and satisfied. we put on a really good show, one that i’m proud of, one that i think will be discovered by new viewers for years to come. It was an intense 7-year experience that brought me deep friendships and even deeper satisfaction and pride. i love the show i love titus welliver as harry bosch and everyone else in the cast. i am so lucky this happened to me and harry bosch and i will always cherish the results and remember the people who made it happen. this is just a part of them in the photo, but it certainly took a village and I was glad to be a resident of that village. thanks to everyone who helped make it, thanks to everyone who watched it. season 7 will be the best yet. -mc
January 20, 2021 – The Last Day of Filming Bosch Season 7We just had a sad goodbye to Jamie Hector. As Jerry Edgar, he took the character way beyond anything that was in the books and made our show so much better.
And now Maddie…We “wrapped out” Madison Lintz who has played Maddie since she was 14. A lot of pressure playing someone inspired by my own daughter, but Madison has been wonderful all the way.

We certainly have challenges this year with the pandemic, but we have instituted strict safety measures and protocols and are confident that we can protect our cast and crew. we wouldn’t have it any other way. In the end, it’s just a TV show and it’s not worth anyone getting sick. story-wise, we have a lot of stories that continue from past seasons, but we’re also building this season around the book the burning room. it’s always fun to use one of the books as the spine of the season. I think it’s an ambitious choice because it’s a great story involving a fire in an apartment building. It is also based on a real case. the show, in my opinion, has been improving year after year and we are not going to lower the bar now. Due to the virus, our start was delayed almost two months, so this season we will do an eight-episode storyline and hopefully that will help make up for lost time so we can introduce the show to fans around the same time. time of year as usual. October 7, 2018I was introduced to Scott Wilson by a friend about 25 years ago. at the time, after a huge success as a first-time actor in the late 1960s, he could barely find work. we went to a dodgers game and found him to be one of the nicest, most humble men he had ever met. Many years later, his fortunes had improved and he reached the peak of success as Hershel in The Walking Dead, as well as in other select roles. when i asked him if he would play dr. guyot about the bosch pilot the answer was an immediate yes, and during the shoot i knew he hadn’t changed one iota. he was still the humble and kind man. the return of the smash hit hadn’t changed him one bit. so I will remember. kind man, loyal friend, great artist. rest in peace. -mc

December 1st, 2017We wrap up bosch season 4 this week, ending in the badlands with maddie bosch on a personal stay, eating a peanut butter sandwich. (inside info: nine takes meant she took a bite out of nine different sandwiches). it seemed like a fitting and quiet end to the season. Like I’ve said all along, I think we’ve got something really good coming in season four. We still have a lot of editing and post-production work to do and it will only make things better. but i feel really good about it and now we’re thinking about where the story goes if/when we get season five. soon we will know. In the meantime, I can’t say enough good things about the cast and crew of this show. after four seasons it feels like family and we all take pride and take charge of something we know is good. When you watch this season, probably in April, you’ll be amazed at our locations, from the tunnels under the city to the Flight of Angels to the labyrinthine passageways in the badlands of Anza-Borrego National Park. Against this, we put actors and directors at the top of their craft and surround them with a team that always goes the extra mile to get it right, to make it real. And of course I’m a writer, so I have to say it all started nine months ago in the newsroom. before there was anything there was that room and bosch writers are the best. I can’t wait for you to see this season and for us to move on to the next one.

June 2017I was under Los Angeles today. On a location scout for season 4 of Bosch, we went into the long abandoned tunnels and subway station that still remain beneath downtown. We entered through the Subway Terminal Building and went down several levels into the labyrinth. It was a first hand look at an intriguing part of LA history. The city once had one of the largest public transit systems in the world but decided to back a freeway system that would help build the city as an autotopia. The subways were abandoned in the mid-50s. And we all know how that autotopia idea worked out. Now they are building new subways to cut down on the reliance on the auto — as well as the smog that comes with it. In a way, today was like diving down to a shipwreck in deep water, our flashlights cutting through darkness and illuminating tunnels and ticket booths last used more than fifty years ago. Very black echo-y. I can’t wait to put Harry Bosch down there and start filming. – MC

October 17, 2016 – bosch renewed for season 4! the great news is that there will be a fourth season of bosch! Amazon Studios has said let’s do it again and we’re happy to oblige. It wasn’t exactly arbitrary, but when we started doing the show, I said offhand that I’d like 60 hours of television to get the Harry Bosch story right. well, this brings us almost there. It’s also very exciting to get this news before we finish shooting season 3. It allows us to set up season 4 with some plot lines that aren’t tied. Amazon doesn’t make this kind of decision in a vacuum. the audience is the key ingredient. I want to thank everyone who watched the first two seasons and traveled with us. thanks to you we can do it again! I trust that season 3, we’re almost done, raise the bar another level and then move on to season 4. – mc

Aug 23, 2016 bosch season 3 liner notesit’s hard to put into words how i feel when i see these scenes with harry bosch and the boy shark being filmed. taken from my first novel the black echo. when i wrote it over 25 years ago i started with sharkey. The Street Kid was the first fictional character on the page, drawn from runaway kids I met growing up working in hotel kitchens in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Harry came into the story afterwards, obviously drawn from literary and film heroes, as well as detectives I met as a news reporter. so to see this story come to life now with these two great actors, titus welliver of course as harry, bridger zadina as sharkey, it’s amazing to me. after three seasons you’d think this would get old, but I’m mesmerized by these two and their interactions. more than the days spent on set, I have a sense of nostalgia. I remember writing that first book and trying to find time to read it between the hours of my real job as a reporter. I’m certainly happy that we decided not to present the show in the same order as the books. waiting to do the black echo in season 3 gave this team on both sides of the camera a better understanding of what we have and what we want to achieve. I think this season will be the one I’ve waited 25 years for. -mc

Bosch achieved the biggest debut weekend of any Amazon original series and is the most viewed title in mainstream instant video, movies and TV series in its first four weeks. Amazon announced that it has greenlit a second season. the second season will draw mainly from trunk music with elements from the fall and the last coyote. Harry will investigate the murder of a Hollywood producer who laundered money for the mafia. He too will hunt down serial killer Chilton Hardy and investigations will take Bosch from the hills of Hollywood to the back streets of Los Angeles. and Las Vegas, threatening those closest to him: his teenage daughter and ex-wife. we expect it to start airing in early 2016.

January 14, 2015hello bosch fans! happy New Year. We’re less than a month away from Bosch’s TV show being available in all its 10-episode glory. Starting today, Amazon is putting the new and improved Pilot up for viewing. you may be asking, do I really need to see it again? Well, that of course is your choice, but I thought I’d tell you a little bit about some of the changes we put into the pilot after we got the green light to shoot a full season. the main changes concern the court case. Bosch is being sued for killing a man during the investigation of a serial killer case. If you recall the original pilot, the trial began early in the case with the attorneys opening statements and Harry in the defendant’s chair watching. When we got the go-ahead for the first season, we decided we should be involved in the trial after it’s already underway and Harry Bosch is on the witness stand. we wanted harry more active in the courtroom and this worked. we also had to bring in some new actors because some actors in the pilot had schedule conflicts once we established our shooting schedule. One of the newcomers is Mimi Rogers, who plays Money Chandler, the lawyer who is suing Harry. she’s really good and she likes the money in the book. there are a couple of other scenes added as well. but i think the new court scenes are very important because harry is now a participant. he is testifying and revealing himself, and the information that comes out is important to his character and the rest of the episodes of the season. The new pilot is up and out now, but if you ask me, I’d wait to see it when the full season is out on February 13th and you can jump from the pilot straight to episode 2. Bosch’s first season production has started and so far so good. so cool, actually. we’re shooting additional scenes for the pilot and then nine more episodes that combine elements of concrete blonde, city of bones and eco park. yes, echo park. We decided to add the creepy world of Killer Raynard Waits to the mix. that’s him being arrested in the photo above. in the case of waits, the arrest just starts the story.
i’ve seen a lot of scenes this week with harry bosch and his partner jerry edgar. played by titus welliver and jamie hector, i’m starting to see the interplay between these two characters that is so vital in the books. They are both great and I can’t say enough good things about titus. As Harry Bosch, he has to carry the biggest load and he does it well. More than me now, he’s harry bosch’s keeper and I’m not worried in the least.
We also have many other good actors on board. scott wilson is back. mimi rogers and jason gedrick have taken on major roles. i spent a couple of days watching an actor named rob brownstein do an excellent job as nicholas trent from city of bones. he could go on and on, and he wouldn’t even help me get started with the locations. but I think we’ll show sights and sounds that you don’t often see. May 6, 2014Plans for nine more episodes of Bosch the TV show are underway. a great team of writers and producers with credits ranging from the sopranos to the wire to the boardwalk empire to the mad men have signed on and we’re in a month long brainstorming and writing period which is the point starting for the first season. we’ll move into pre-production next month and actual production will follow.
so far it has been fun and very rewarding for me. I see that the character of bosch is preserved in this new way of telling its story. At the same time, I see amazing inventiveness when it comes to the challenges of bringing stories spanning two decades and deep thought and a calm character to the contemporary Los Angeles screen. This kit is certainly up to the task and I look forward to the day when it can be shared with Bosch fans everywhere. -mc

The season will be based on City of Bones, Cement Blonde and Echo Park. what’s super exciting for me is that the writers room for the show opens tomorrow and a highly skilled team of skilled writers will start outlining the season and then writing the episodes. I’ll be there too and I’m looking forward to participating.
Probably the most important question is: when can I see it? guess what? that’s my biggest question too, but for now i don’t have an answer. Over the next few weeks, the creative team at Bosch will be discussing this in depth with Amazon Studios. the deeper question is what is the best way to deliver this story: all at once or in weekly installments. As soon as I have an answer I can share, I certainly will.
As for where the show will be available, we know it will be in all Amazon territories, but now that we have the go-ahead, we will begin the process of finding homes for the show in other territories around the world. so if you want to see it, please let your local vendors know. next week i will be going to europe to help in the process of taking the show to new territories. I think because bosch books have already built a fan base in many of these places, we should succeed in interesting broadcast, cable and streaming content providers everywhere.
In addition to all the fans who attended and supported the show, I also have to thank the creative team at Bosch. this has certainly been a team effort with many people on both sides of the camera doing their best work because they already knew and loved the books or wanted to tell a story shot in Los Angeles. a lot of different reasons tied everyone together for the pilot and they came together in a way that made this decision, at least for me, a no-brainer. thanks so much and keep checking back here for updates on this exciting project.— michael connelly
January 10, 2014 today we turned the pilot episode of “bosch” into amazon studios. has been edited and polished and set to music. our work is done and I think we have done something really good. It’s something I’m very proud of, I don’t regret it, and I think it accurately portrays the character and history of Harry Bosch, as well as the city of angels. There are some things that are new, but a lot of it comes directly from the books and what we know about Harry. and has a titus welliver like the man himself. I can’t think of another actor who could bring Harry Bosch to life so firmly and perfectly.
I’m excited for all you bosch fans to see. I hope you like it as much as I do.— michael connelly
