The author’s illustrations are sharp, colorful, and above all charming, with a vibe reminiscent of an old racing poster. the writing is excellent and will pique a child’s interest in automobile history.

The book serves as an introduction to children about how cars are made and how they work. while there is a lot of information perhaps more suitable for older readers, the book also has a lot of material for younger readers (and pictures too!).

The title of The Racecar Alphabet by Brian Floca is a bit of a misnomer. if you’re expecting an “a is for…”, this book isn’t, and for the better. instead, this large format book is a beautifully illustrated book about car racing, which is organized by letter. there’s lots of nice history about the different brands, eras, clues, and personalities, plenty to keep parents interested, and a great way to teach your kids about the alphabet at the same time.
