Born March 18, 1960 in Washington DC, Donna Kauffman has always had a love affair with the romance genre. Always an avid reader of books, she spent her childhood poring over various types of fiction novels, but the genre she always seemed to gravitate to was romance.

“I think falling in love and starting a lasting relationship is one of the most powerful things we experience,” says donna. Even at such a young age, Donna Kauffman’s heart beats for romantic reading. It was this lustful love for these brilliant stories of rich romance that prompted Donna to pursue her literary dreams. she loved reading romance novels so much that becoming a romance novelist was “a natural progression.”
A love of reading came naturally to Donna, as did her desire to create her own stories. Growing up in Maryland, she would spend hours writing long stories about the family’s pet gerbils, complete with full-color illustrations—books she’s glad she lost over the years.
“think of the potential for blackmail!” she laughs.
gerbils aside, it wasn’t until she was in her thirties that donna kauffman began flirting with a career as a professional writer. Living in Virginia, she joined the Washington Romance Writers Local Writers Group, an established offshoot of Romance Writers of America, and “knew right away that she had found my people.” she immersed herself in the group with a passion, quickly becoming a valued member. she volunteered as program coordinator, eventually becoming editor of the group’s newsletters, and even served as chair of the writing group. Working so closely with Washington romance writers helped Donna better understand the gears and wheels of the literary industry. the writers group helped her build valuable connections with people already established within the industry she hoped to be a part of, while also improving her understanding of writing. It is this “dual approach” that Donna Kauffman attributes to publishing her first novel: learning as much as she could about creative writing in general, and also gaining significant insight into the industry she was trying to be a part of.

Because of her networking skills and rigor in proofreading her writing, Donna Kauffman’s first manuscript won her a three-book contract, and she’s had steady contracts ever since.
“The first to hear the news were my two young children,” donna remembers. “i put [them] in a playpen and ran to the bathroom so i could take ‘the call’ without barney and sesame street blaring in the background. Of course, they were more interested in telling me that our new pup had peed on the rug,” she laughs.
With over fifty published books to his credit, a second job as a TV columnist, and a Rita Award for his novel ‘The Charm Storm,’ this US bestseller. uu. she today she certainly she is not a virgin to success. When she stops and considers the many characters her mind has shaped over the twenty years she has spent putting pen to paper, “I feel like I get to live in a huge extended family filled with so many people that I adore and love. everyone is dear to me,” she expresses. Without a doubt, it is this familiar affection of her characters that helps make them and her work so irresistible.
