greg iles is an american writer who was born in 1960. he was actually born in germany because his father was a doctor and he was in charge of the clinic of the american embassy. He grew up in Mississippi and managed to graduate from the University of Mississippi in 1980.
Despite his later success as a novelist, he actually started out in a rock band called Frank Scarlett. in the band he stood out as a guitarist and singer-songwriter. he only left the band once he got married and needed to settle down and make more money. It was then that he turned to writing and began working on his first novel.

first novel
iles first novel, spandau phoenix, was published in 1993 and was an instant success. It was her first book and entered the New York Times bestseller list. this is quite an achievement for a writer who started out writing song lyrics. spandau phoenix was about the nazi war criminal rudolph hess.
He was prisoner number 7 and the police found his diary shortly after his death. This led them to believe that he was a spy and they were interested in a series of flights he made to the UK. the novel is full of twists about double agents, spies, and secret alliances.
