It’s back to school time and you’re frantically trying to organize your workbooks! We have all been there, parents and students alike. I’ve spent the last few days putting together some of the best tips on how to cover a school book. I’ve also added some extra tips to make your workbooks unique to you.

Let’s get the cover of the hardest school book out of the way first, okay? Many of us know that hardcover books tend to be the hardest books to cover, and if you’re worried about getting it right, we’ve put together a step-by-step process to make it easier for you.

step 1: cut the paper to size.
Place your book against the paper of your choice to determine how much wrapping paper you will need, leaving about 4 cm of excess paper around the school book.
Top Tip: Save time by pre-cutting all of your book cover paper. be sure to check the paper size is correct before cutting the rest of your book covers.
Step 2: Lift the middle of the book at an angle to make sure it can be closed easily.
step 3: fit the cover to your notebook.

It’s often easier to have an extra set of hands holding the cover while you work. if no one is around, use pegs to temporarily secure the cover of the schoolbook.
Step 4: Cut off excess paper to make the cover fit better.
Cut the paper in a v-shape at each corner to make sure to reduce excess paper around the edges. also, cut off excess paper near the spine of the book.
Step 5: Cut the masking tape and use it to stick the cover to the book.
Top tip: Granite or plastic countertops work best for holding pre-cut pieces of tape. Placing pre-cut pieces of tape on painted or varnished countertops can cause the paint or varnish to peel. if you don’t have these countertops, use a plastic container instead.

You can go ahead and buy pre-cut covers, but this isn’t always the most exciting way to cover a book. you may want to personalize your books a bit more and add your own touch.

If you’re the kind of person who likes to keep things simple, this is the school book cover for you. there is nothing more timeless than a simple and neutral design. By using brown or black paper, you can get an iconic minimalist design.
the perfectionist
Sometimes digging through your school bag to find the right book can be frustrating and time consuming. If you want to be as efficient as possible, consider organizing your workbooks by color. To do this, make use of colored labels on the spine of the book cover to organize them.
the modernist
If you’re into colors a little more than minimalism but still want a modern style, this is the cover for you. Create a streamlined look by gluing white paper to the spine and give your school book a pop of color using the pattern of your choice.
Finally, glue the patterned paper to the front and back covers of the workbook, taking care to leave the white spine visible.
