This being the first of the ‘Apprentice Ranger’ novels and the first novel published by John Flanagan, being his debut, this is the book that helps fully establish the world they are based on. An underrated novel, overshadowed by the ‘Ranger’s Apprentice’ series, it remains an impressive start for the ‘Brothers’ books published by John Flanagan. First published in 2011, again on the first of November, it took a different path than what had come before Flanagan, though it was still firmly a fantasy novel. by establishing a new world and characters, this helped set the entirely different tone that this particular series of novels would take.
