Laurence Shades is one of America’s foremost authors, famous for writing his novels based on the genres of mystery, humor, suspense, and non-fiction. but, before trying success in his writing career, he worked in different trades. some of them included working as a taxi driver, furniture mover, dishwasher, shoe salesman, lounge singer, and lifeguard. When Laurence failed to make a name for himself in any of these professions, he decided to pursue writing full-time in 1976. Since then, he has never done a day’s work other than writing. During the course of his writing career, author Laurence has published around 20 books and close to hundreds of articles and essays for various magazines. He is particularly known for his critically acclaimed series of novels titled the ‘Key West’ series. In addition to that, he has also written several nonfiction works in addition to working as a ghostwriter and contributor. Of all the books author Laurence has written, 4 have become New York Times bestsellers. each of them has appeared in 4 different lists, with different names, and none of them belong to him. This is a record in itself for author Laurence. He was born in Newark, New Jersey in the year 1951. He has said that his parents were heavy smokers, but had extravagant emotions.
Laurence graduated summa cum laude from New York University in 1972. He was even inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa House. Author Laurence’s alma mater and various honor societies have tried many times to track down his address changes for over a decade, but he has never thought to answer them even once due to reasons he knows best. Author Laurence was sitting on an Italian beach in the summer of 1970 when he first heard his inner voice about becoming a writer. he was alone, poor and hungry at the time and noticed a couple on the side of the beach. Laurence didn’t notice the man, but he found the woman extremely beautiful. he saw that the couple was enjoying a relaxing moment and had a bottle of white wine with them. when they say author laurence, he introduced himself to them as a writer. from that very moment, he decided that he was going to adopt writing as a career. Immediately, author Laurence began writing stories and various lengthy descriptions that he considered novels. but he was unable to sell any of them. By 1979, he managed to become a journalist and began using his contacts to publish his work in popular magazines like Playboy, Saturday Review, Outside, and Vanity Fair.

In 1982, he was promoted to ethics columnist for esquire, after which he made some contributions as editor of that magazine. By 1986, author Laurence had begun writing nonfiction novels. his first national bestseller came in 1991 with the title ‘chief of chiefs’. This novel was written with the help of a couple of FBI agents, who gave Laurence some insights into how the mob works. The novel’s success helped author Laurence buy a small house in Key West. he even got a ticket to move out of new york for the first time. Author Laurence likes to spend most of her time at his house writing novels. Most of his books naturally feature high humidity, New York mobsters, palm trees, and dogs wearing sunglasses. The townspeople he used to mention in the novels would not be afraid of the mobsters, and author Laurence has asked his readers to explore more such instances in his novels.

the key west series written by the author laurence shades consists of 11 books in total published between the years 1992 and 2015. the first book in this series was published with the title “florida strait”. It was published by Dell Publishing in 1992. The story of this book revolves around the characters Sal Giordano, Gino Delgatto, Joey Goldman, Zack Davidson, Vincente Delgatto, Don Giovanni, Charlie Pontw, etc. It is set in New York City in New York and Key West in Florida. At the beginning of the novel, Joey Goldman is shown to be moving south for the winter. He has decided to take his girlfriend Sandra with him to Key West. there, he wants to enjoy the cool breeze, surf, and sunny weather. Joey knew the land was famous for allowing a small-time hustler to win big while he was looking for a racket. then his half brother named gino arrives on the scene. he appears to be on the run from a mob after a shabby jewelry heist he was involved in. now, he is in desperate need of a scapegoat. Knowing that Joey is Gino’s half brother, the mob goes after him. A ruthless don from Miami is also after him for obtaining his uncut emeralds worth 3 million dollars. When Joey discovers that the Don has sent his goons to get the Emeralds from him, he tries to evade them. But first, Joey needs to find out where his emeralds are hidden. If he succeeds in living long enough, he can become an unlikely hero who can kill thugs to save himself and the emeralds from him.
one of the other books in the series is titled “tropical depression”. It was published by Backprint Publishers in the year 1996. This book includes Murray Zemelman, Franny Rudin, Joey Goldman, Tommy Tarpon etc as main characters. At the beginning of the book, Murray Zemelman is described as being a famous lingerie dealer. he seems to be in some kind of depression and decided to commit suicide. one morning, he sits in his car, expecting the worst. Instead, he walks away from him, saying goodbye to his bra business, the streets of New Jersey, and his wife. Murray heads to the home of his first wife, named Franny, in Florida. he considered himself stupid enough to have left her several years ago. He intends to start over in Key West and meets a Native American named Tommy Tarpon. he comes to know that tommy is also struggling with his life. therefore, the two develop a plan to put themselves out of their miseries. With the help of his business acumen and Tommy’s knack for dealing with government statues, Murray decided to enter the card room. but it seems not to be a good idea to gamble in key west. When other people find out about Tommy and Murray’s plan, they take an interest in it, too. then a local don makes an irresistible offer for the two. All Murray had wanted was to return to the life of his first wife, but he ends up endangering Tommy’s life, his wife’s life, and his own, all because of his interest in the game. he hadn’t thought that his plan would fail and they would end up in such a situation.
