laurie r. King is an American writer and author best known for her crime novels. She was born on September 19, 1952 in Oakland, California. king graduated from the university of california santa cruz in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in comparative religion and then graduated from the graduate theological union with a master’s degree in theology in 1984. her thesis focused on the “feminine aspects of yahweh” . she later received an honorary degree from the pacific church school of theology. Her first book in the Kate Martinelli series, Serious Talent, won an Edgar Award for Best First Novel in 1994. She also received the John Creasey Memorial Award for the novel in 1995.

Grave Talent was first published in 1993. It is the first book in King’s Kate Martinelli series. kate martinelli belongs to the san francisco police department and is extremely secretive and prefers to solve cases the old way instead of using modern techniques, something for which she is criticized. She also has a lover, a psychologist who is almost the opposite of Kate’s personality in every way. kate’s co-worker is al hawkin. kate just got promoted to homicide and her partner is not thrilled to have a green partner. It’s going to be a long ride, especially given the latest case that’s come through. The unthinkable has happened in a small community on the outskirts of San Francisco. After the bodies of four strangled boys are found in the San Francisco area, police appoint inspectors to investigate the girls’ murder and bring the perpetrator to justice.

Suspicion shifts to the egotistical and manic Andy Lewis, Vaun’s ex-boyfriend, as the potential killer. he could be a psycho on the prowl trying to get revenge on his ex-lover, or he could just be another in a series of dead ends. To bring the killer of these young women to the justice he deserves, Kate Martinelli must delve into the dark artist’s past, no matter the consequences.

Kate’s partner, Hawkin, convinces Kate to set up Lewis at his house. Kate resists, but ultimately leaves Vaun to recover at her house. Lewis shows up and says that he will murder Kate along with her psychologist lover, Lee, so that Vaun will take the blame for her. Lee calls the police to let them know Lewis is there, but Lewis has enough time to shoot her and disable her for life before a sniper takes him away. Kate must find out what happened in Vaun’s past and track down the killer once and for all, even if it means losing everything she cares about. Doing some research, Kate discovers that Erasmus knows the homeless people in the park well. however, the suspect remains a mystery. nobody thinks that he is crazy, but it seems that he is a fool. Martinelli must interrogate a man who only talks through the use of quotes. she tries to learn about his history, and the more she gets into it, the more the plot thickens. Before long, Martinelli is being led down a crooked path that includes dark secrets, a disbanded cult, a quiet thirst for spirituality, and an appetite for bloody revenge.
