Believe it or not, games like minecraft motivate kids to read. To learn how to play, read minecraft forums and books. and there are plenty of good fiction chapters and in-between books about minecraft adventures that kids can read too.

In an article via cable, clive thompson explains: “minecraft is surrounded by a culture of literacy. the game comes with minimal instructions or tutorials, so new players immediately went looking for information on how it works. that means . . . poring over the instructional texts on minecraft wikis and “walkthrough” sites, written by players for players. or delve into printed manuals like the ultimate minecraft player’s guide or the official manual for minecraft redstone”.

After a recent trip to the bookstore to buy some minecraft books for my kids, I thought I’d tell you about some of the best minecraft books you could buy for your own kids. (perhaps for Christmas or gifts anytime?) Because reading is reading, right?

Some of these books are guides (non-fiction), some are novels (fiction), and some are activity books.

When Steve loses everything and moves in with Runt’s family, Runt hopes Steve will help him with warrior training. runt is a relatable, mostly serious character who just wants a different life, like most kids his age, and is vying for a dream opportunity. a fantastic minecraft picture book that will make a nice addition to any bookshelf!

trayaurus and the enchanted crystal by dan tdm, illustrated by doreen mulryanthis is a graphic novel by dantdm, a minecraft youtuber. my daughter didn’t love it but she gets good reviews so it’s worth considering. The story is about dantdm and trayaurus finding powerful crystals that can be used for good or evil, so it’s a big deal that denton, his archenemy, found a shard too!

Invasion of the OtherworldThe Invasion of the Overworld by Mark ChevertonGameknight999 loved ruining the game for other players (called griefing) until his father’s invention teleports him into the game. Now he’s worried what will happen if he’s killed in Minecraft – will he respawn? And he learns that the creatures in the game are really alive and he’ll have to start working with others to survive. My daughter thinks this is the best Minecraft chapter book series for kids. What do you think?
