mistborn is set on a world known as scadrial, in a sub-region called the final empire. who are the characters?
An important point in the Mistborn series is the social division between those who supported the ruling lord before his re-creation (nobility) and those who did not (skaa). For the most part, the skaa are treated as servants and punished for failing to support the ruling lord prior to his rise to power. Usually, the skaa were forced to work as farmers, miners, and factory workers for nothing more than “food tokens” as compensation. even the most skilled of the skaa class were relegated to being underpaid and treated even worse. essentially, the skaa were slaves to the noble class.

In contrast, the nobility, or nobles, descend from those who supported the ruling lord before his wealth of power. As a reward for their support, they are not only a class above the skaa, but are also blessed with a magical power known as Allomancy, the ability to ingest and transform certain metals within their bodies to augment their mental and physical capabilities. . this process is known as burning. each level of lofting skill contributes to whether a noble is a mist, one that can only burn one type of metal, or a mistborn, one that can burn all metals.

This essential breakdown forms the overall theme of the mistborn series, but sanderson has done a spectacular job of weaving and branching in detail so that each feature of the world of mistborns has a plethora of additional details, meanings, and often subcategories. .
The Allomancers have a strong history with the ruling lord in Sanderson’s world, but not unlike reality, many of the noble class have been raised with skaa, thus diluting the power of the Allomancers over time and, understandably, annoying the ruling lord.

Like almost every other fantasy series ever written, mistborn also features a variety of creatures that serve as additions to the main species in the books. in this series, these creatures include kandra, mist wraiths, and koloss.
kandra
Sanderson’s kandra are a species of particularly intelligent and non-violent shapeshifters, whose unique ability to fully absorb and replicate the physical traits of any dead creature. The kandra are actually paid for their services by the humans in mistborn, but a strict code of conduct forbids them to kill.

Mistwraiths are similar to kandra in that they, too, have the ability to become what they are not; however, these creatures transform their form by collecting the bones of consumed creatures to form new beings. In the Mistborn World, Mistwraiths are a feared species with abilities so dangerous they can even become kandra.
koloss
koloss are perhaps the worst extraspecies creatures to appear in the series. a combination of superhuman strength, violence, and a propensity for rage and boredom make koloss especially dangerous and deadly.

The mistborn series is made up of four books, including an original trilogy and a final book, which takes place 300 years later. The books are, in order, Mistborn: The Final Empire, Mistborn: The Well of Ascension, Mistborn: The Hero of Ages, and Mistborn: The Alloy of Law.

Mistborn: The Final Empire, the first book in Sanderson’s series, begins with a thief and prisoner who is half Skaa only to discover that his other half is Mistborn. Realizing this, Sanderson’s protagonist Kelsier begins to use his new talent against the ruling lord and his tyrannical reign over the final empire. Always down for positive characters, Sanderson actually introduces an additional main character later in the book, shifting the focus of the whole to Kelsier.
sanderson’s new lead, a woman named vin, actually acts as the main character throughout the series. A street thief with a troubled and traumatic past, Vin trusts no one and relies solely on herself to survive. Vin’s life as a street orphan, coupled with her Allomantic powers, make her a powerful ally or enemy throughout the books.
mistborn: the well of ascension
sanderson follows up with mistborn: the well of ascension, in which the focus is on the five inner domains, or territories, of the final empire. In this early sequel to Mistborn: The Final Empire, Sanderson’s protagonists Vin, Kelsier and their crew must focus on keeping order after the outcome of their first adventure.
what readers think
Reviewers of the Mistborn series contend that the books are very well written and worth reading even for those who are not typical fans of high fantasy writing. Forbes contributor Erik Kain even went so far as to call The Mistborn Books “one of the best fantasy stories I’ve ever read” and described Sanderson’s writing as “crafted with such gory precision that it’s almost impossible to leave the books. ”
the future of the mistborn
The series made the New York Times bestseller list and even caught the interest of production companies who have worked for years to bring the books to the big screen. Sanderson maintains that he has made significant progress with a production company, but the rights to the series became available for purchase again last month.
In addition to a potential movie, Sanderson and his team have been working diligently to finalize and release a video game version of the series for all consoles, potentially including PC. the most recent updates are that the series is expected to launch next year after delays due to the introduction of new game consoles last year.
what does that mean:
although the realization of the mistborn series as an extension of movies and video games is still pending, it is worth noting that this is a long process, and the collection’s mere consideration for these media is a testament to the success of sanderson first original series.
