Winner of multiple awards courtesy of his best-selling literary works, Wally Lamb is a celebrated American writer. He was born in October 1950 in Norwich upon Connecticut, United States. Lamb, who is in his sixties, attended Norwich Free Academy, a school to which he would later return to teach English in the early 1970s; Generally, Lamb, who juggles teaching and writing, taught high school in a career spanning more than two decades. For his undergraduate and graduate degrees, in which he received teaching degrees, Lamb went to the University of Connecticut. Similarly, he has also taught at this university for which he was an associate professor in the English department. He also has an MFA from the University of Vermont.

Dominick has a schizophrenic and paranoid twin brother named Thomas Birdey, prompting Dominick to take on the role of caretaker. dominick is pushing for his brother to be released from a mental institution and is trying to come to terms with the death of his son and his runaway wife.
