Of course, the magic system is only a small part of the larger world of scadrial. sanderson is also excellent at building a world that feels similar enough to be relatable, but tweaks it enough to stoke an awkwardness that will keep you reading.
4. war of the red queen
Like the Kingkiller Chronicle, the Red Queen War Series has an unlikely protagonist, a minor royal who lives a life of luxury and then is forced into a whirlwind of political intrigues. Of course, that is not the whole story, there is also a zombie war, magic spells, Norse mythology, and many obstacles along the way. it’s just a fun good time, and that’s just the first book.
5. the inheritance cycle
The Inheritance Cycle, also known as the Eragon Books, is a series for young adults with serious fantasy ambitions. Don’t let the label sway you, this story grapples with death, family drama, and rebel uprising, all while featuring dragons.

With four books in the series, it’s an undertaking, though the language is much simpler than other high fantasy novels. treat it like a palate cleanser amongst the other series on this list – a long, but joyful read.
6. bastard knights
the bastard knight series is the now you see me of fantasy novels. A group of con artists enjoying a good meal make their way through misadventures under the leadership of master thief Locke Lamora. The first book has an interesting story concept: the chapters alternate between the present, where Locke and the gang must fight a rival syndicate in the underground crime world, and flashback sequences describing how the gang got to this point.
Only three of the announced seven books have been published, all of which will follow Locke and his friends. With a sequel series planned afterward, now is the time to jump into this series before it becomes too daunting.
7. the stormlight file
Fans of the flashback narrative aspect of the kingkiller chronicle will love the style of the stormlight archive, which is told from the points of view of multiple characters as they live seemingly disconnected lives, but merge and collide. slowly. there are also a number of interludes with minor characters, filling in historical details and background information.
The world of these novels is one of high drama: gigantic recurring storms make magical gemstones sparkle, giving them the power to transmute matter in the right hands. In addition to the magical system, the world of Roshar also has a social system based on eye color. It is these little details that can make a novel go from being good to being excellent.
