Fern Michaels, born Mary Ruth Kuczkir, arrived on April 9, 1933, in Hastings, Pennsylvania. she was born at a very small weight, weighing just four and a half pounds at birth. her father had nicknamed her ‘dink’ because of her small stature at birth. her loving family and her friends still call her by this old nickname.
