The Ramona Books is a series of eight fun books for young adults by Beverly Cleary found on Ramona Quimby, her family and friends. The main book, Ramona and Beezus, appeared in 1955. The last book, Ramona’s World, was distributed in 1999. Two books in the series were called Newbery Honor Books, Ramona and Her Father and Ramona Quimby, Age Eight years; ramona, like her mother, won the national book award. Known here and there as the Beezus and Ramona series, as of 2012 the books were advertised by HarperCollins as “The Complete Ramona Collection.”

the ramona books were left out of the cleary’s before henry huggins series and take place in the same neighborhood. in the henry huggins books, beezus was one of henry’s roommates, and his younger sister, ramona, was mostly vermin to henry, beezus, and the other kids.
It became obvious (while composing henry huggins) that most of the characters he had done so far had no brothers or sisters. “Someone should have a relative,” he wrote to my own feet, “so I cast a little brother to clear up the beezus epithet. When it was time to name the sister, I heard a neighbor yell at another that her name was Ramona. i wrote in “ramona”, made some references to her, gave her a short scene and felt like that was the end of her. Little did I dream, to use a hackneyed expression from the books of my adolescence, that she would take over her own books from her?
in 1955, after completing three henry books, he clearly composed beezus and ramona, a novel in which beezus was the central character. The plot revolved around fourth-grade beezus’ dissatisfactions with his younger sister. At that point in 1968, having finished the Henry Hughgins series, he clearly returned to focus on the two sisters in Ramona the Pest. It became the establishment book for the Ramona series. As distributor, author, and analyst Anita Silvey puts it, “It was almost inevitable that Cleary would distribute a series of books about this outrageous but captivating character.”[2]
Ramona the Pest, similar to the remaining books in the series, is composed from Ramona’s perspective. at ramona the plague ramona enters kindergarten. subsequent books follow her as she grows and progresses through school, usually at the rate of one assessment rather than two books. Composed from the 1950s to the 1990s, the dates are not mentioned in the books, and the children are meant to talk to real children in any age. Ramona’s last book, Ramona’s World, was released in 1999, 15 years after the previous one.

this is the main book in the series composed from the more established perspective of sister beezus. In the book, Beezus is struggling with Ella’s affection for Ella’s annoying little sister Ramona Ella. ramona annoys beezus with her high spirits and her wild creative ability. ramona writes everywhere in a library book, she freaks out in the bathroom and disrupts beezus’s specialty class. finally, beezus recognizes that it is possible to love her sister, even when she usually doesn’t love her.
ramona the plague (1968)
ramona and her neighbor howie go to kindergarten and miss binney is their educator. Ramona realizes that she has been portrayed as a vermin, but she doesn’t see herself in that way, and in this book she strives to be great and follow the lead. however, she infrequently has trouble controlling herself and one day gets sent home from school for pulling her classmates’ hair. Convinced that her teacher doesn’t care about her, Ramona refuses to return until an exceptionally rare letter from her teacher brings her back.
ramona the brave (1975)
ramona considers herself daring, and in some cases she is surprised to understand that others do not agree. it’s late spring after kindergarten and things are changing at quimby house. Mrs. quimby has little maintenance work, and the family has an extra room included in the house. Ramona bravely braves playground ghosts and a mean dog on her way to class, however, she is unprepared for how terrifying it feels to rest alone in the new plastic room.

mr. Quimby loses his career and Ramona has some great ideas on how best to get some extra money to help out. she also chooses her chance for him to quit smoking, and she will help him with that too. When the congregation’s Christmas event rolls around, Ramona feels left out. In any case, the night she feared so much turns into a victory that brings the family back together.

currently in second grade, ramona is envious of her mother and beezus, because they seem to share things she can’t, like sewing and cooking. she is excessively young, so it is impossible to stay home alone but tired of going to kemp’s house after school. at home, her guardians quarrel and the girls worry about who will take care of them if they get separated. Finally, Ramona discovers that her family has problems just like everyone else, except that they love each other.

In this book, Ramona Quimby discovers how to take responsibility for herself. she is in third grade at another school and is making some new classmates, similar to the “garden monkey” who rides her transport and sits behind her in class. her family depends on her to supervise the school without anyone else and coexist with willa jean after school every day. the way she handles everything so well shows that ramona is developing.
ramona forever (1984)
In this book, ramona acknowledges that change is inevitable, but she will always act naturally. Beezus and Ramona don’t like Howie pretending to be Uncle Hobart, so they try to convince their guardians to give them the opportunity to stay home alone, however, a misunderstanding causes problems between them. When their fussy cat is found dead in the basement and his mom is pregnant, they figure out how to cooperate. At that point, Aunt Bea is involved with Uncle Hobart, and the family has only two weeks to organize a wedding. Finally, little Roberta arrives, and Ramona realizes that she is putting herself in charge of growing up.
ramona’s world (1999)
Ramona’s reality is growing and it doesn’t revolve around her family as much as it used to. there’s another girl in fourth grade, daisy kidd, and she and ramona are the best of buddies. Mrs. quimby stays home once again, dealing with little girl roberta, and ramona is trying to be a good example for her younger brother, while she shares her mother’s consideration. Currently in high school, Beezus also has new classmates and is interested in young men. In fact, even as Baby Roberta arrives, the more experienced Quimby sisters are developing new hobbies.
since 2012 the series has featured three artists: louis darling, alan tiegreen and tracy dockray. books can be accessed independently and in boxes. They have also been distributed as recordings of books read by Stockard Channing.
