Famous American author Louisa Alcott suffered from a number of chronic health problems in her later years, including vertigo. she died when she was 55 years old of a stroke, on March 6, 1888, exactly two days after the death of her father. She was buried in Concord Cemetery, near Emerson. In 1858, the Alcott family lived on Lexington Road at Orchard House, now a historic landmark in the area. Surrounded by apple trees, the house would also be the setting for some of her future novels.
